ORDER THE BIOGRAPHY OF MONSIGNOR ANTHONY BROUWERS, FOUNDER OF THE LAY MISSIONARY MOVEMENT
‘For We Are God’s Helpers’ By R. W. Dellinger

Lay Mission-Helpers and Mission Doctors associations are the legacy of one man. Monsignor Anthony Brouwers recognized the contribution that Catholic lay men and women could make in the missions, at a time when the role of the laity was yet to be expanded by the Second Vatican Council. Despite local and national opposition from U.S. church leaders, the priest from Los Angeles was determined to send lay men and women to work in the mission fields of Third World countries around the world.

The parish priest’s legacy continues to this day. More than 700 people have taken up his sacred call to serve the poor in Africa, Latin America, the Pacific, Asia and the United States.

‘For We Are God’s Helpers’ chronicles his life, struggles to found the Lay Mission-Helpers and Mission Doctors associations, sufferings with bone cancer and untimely death in January 1964. It begs an answer to one question: Was Anthony Brouwers a saint?

The 168-page paperback includes:
• Roots of Anthony Brouwers’ vocation;
• Epiphany in Africa that changed the priest’s life and ministry;
• In-depth interviews with relatives, friends, lay missionaries and caretakers;
• Histories of the Lay Mission-Helpers and Mission Doctors;
• How the Catholic Church gauges holiness;
• Selection of Monsignor Brouwers’ “Mission Chats” columns;
• Archival photos and documents.
